Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a 'hands on' manual therapy that is holistic, drug free yet based on a sound medical background. By diagnosing the root cause we use techniques to create an environment to allow the body to heal itself naturally with the primary aim of a swift return to everyday life and further injury prevention.

Osteopathy combines pain management, therapeautic techniques, advice and reassurance, self help exercise, lifestyle and dietary changes hence providing a holistic approach.

Pain control is an important part of Osteopathic treatment be it from a long-standing or recent injury. We understand that pain can be dehabilitating, that it can affect anxiety levels, morale and your psyche and hence your quality of life and the people around you.

Osteopaths treat young and older people, manual workers, office professionals, pregnant women, children and sports people.

What is Osteopathy?

It is a system of medical diagnosis and holistic treatment. It works with the structure and function of the whole body, and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together as well as your frame of mind.

What Osteopathic techniques will be used?

Range from gentle massage of muscles and connective tissues to manipulation (mobilisation) and stretching of joints. We also find that advice, reassurance, gentle exercises, life and dietary are essential techniques to aid recovery.

What will I expect from the first appointment?

You will be asked details of the complaint, followed by a detailed medical history. It is usual to undress to your underwear so that a physical examination can be performed through a variety of assessments and tests. The information gathered provides a diagnosis which is explained in a way that you can understand. This is followed by treatment and advice and a treatment plan based upon your own lifestyle and commitments.

If you are conscious of your body please wear underwear that you are comfortable in being treated in such as shorts, sports bras or we can you treat you fully clothed.
